Years of Lobbying to Increase Speed Limits Pays Off

New speed limits mean HGVs in England and Wales can now travel at 50 mph (up from 40 mph) on single carriageway roads and 60 mph (up from 50 mph) on dual carriageway roads.

To study what effect these changes might have to road safety the Department for Transport commissioned a 3-year evaluation of these speed limit changes in October 2015. The first-year conclusions from that study indicate a positive result which has been welcomed by the road haulage lobby.
