Applications Now Open for the 2019 Scottish Cyber Awards

Applications Now Open for the 2019 Scottish Cyber Awards

Applications are now open for the fourth iteration of the largest awards event to recognise the growing cyber security talent in Scotland.

After 3 successful years of the Scottish Cyber Awards, the awards are back to celebrate the innovators, pioneers and leaders across all sectors, as well as the world of academia.

Hosted by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) and first held in 2016, the event has come a long way in a short space of time – from its second year onwards it has been held at the Edinburgh’s The Sheraton Grand, growing in both attendance and applications year on year.

The wide range of awards will draw attention to the bright minds who often work behind the scenes, and the increased popularity reflects the growth of what of what is becoming a critical industry for Scotland’s economic prosperity and the safety of its population.

Mandy Haeburn-Little, the Chief Executive of SBRC said:

" This year in Scotland we have seen unprecedented traction in the cyber agenda and this is something we welcome hugely,

The successes we have seen have been substantial - from Cyber Scotland week and the inaugural NCSC Cyber UK event being held here, through to a whole new plethora of new tech businesses, this has been an amazing journey.

Scotland has so much to shout about and we should be raising the roof in celebration of our activity - it is time we made much more noise about our success.

So if you are involved in cyber activity in any way - now is your time. Please enter and if you can't enter, encourage someone else to enter -  persuade, cajole and whatever it takes but please encourage people to enter . We have fantastic, transformational awards to enter - one of them could be yours".

This year’s award categories include: Best Cyber Breakthrough, Best Cyber Education Programme, Outstanding Cyber Team, Best Cyber Start-Up, Best New Cyber Talent, Collaboration with Police Scotland, Cyber Evangelist of the Year, Cyber Security Teacher of the Year, Leading Light Innovation Award, Outstanding Woman in Cyber.

Individuals and companies are encouraged to apply themselves or nominate other candidates whom they feel deserve to be recognised.

The winners will be picked by an expert panel of cyber specialists from various industries and presented with one of the specially designed awards.

Last year saw the introduction of a category voted for by the public, Best Customer Experience, recognising organisations that have gone above and beyond to provide excellent service. The best nominations will be put to the public ahead of the awards in October.

Last year’s big winners, the Champion of Champions was won by Cyber Christmas Lectures, a volunteer-run programme founded in 2012 that this year is seeing the team visit six locations across Scotland talking to more than 2500 pupils and teachers.

Applications open today (12th June) and will close on Friday 13th September 2019.

The Cyber Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 20th November, returning to the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh.
