January Spotlight: Fraud Awareness

As part of our Safer Business, Stronger Scotland campaign, the Scottish Business Resilience Centre is focusing on a variety of themed activity each month to highlight business resilience topics with guidance, expert advice, knowledge and informational content to ensure your business is safe and secure for staff, customers and clients.

To kick off 2020, we will be looking at Fraud Awareness in the business environment.

Fraud is a crime in which some kind of deception is used for personal gain. As technology advances, fraudsters have become increasingly sophisticated and many types of fraud exist. Fraud can be committed against individuals or businesses.

Victims of fraud range across vulnerable individuals, major corporations, smaller businesses, as well as the public sector. The 2017 Annual Fraud Indicator estimates fraud losses to the UK at around £190 billion every year, with the private sector hit hardest losing around £140 billion. The public sector may be losing more than £40 billion and individuals around £7 billion.

This month, our experts from SBRC will be on hand to identify and mitigate the various threats to resilience by providing fraud prevention advice.
